What People Actually Say

What People Actually Say

WRITTEN PROFILES

What people say attracts them and what they say puts them off in a profile

No one person is saying they want or don't want all these characteristics, but these are those that, all in all, occur most frequently in several hundred answers.

The first three are the most mentioned.

I must stress that these statements deal with an average and that it is often the exceptions that prove the rule.

LADIES

What many ladies say is most important to them to read in a written profile:

  • around my own age/not too old
  • height (many specify 'tall')
  • similar interests/education
  • not too far away
  • physically fit
  • clean shaven
  • plenty of friends/interests/social life
  • not arrogant sounding
  • likes animals
  • something unique to that person

  • NB. For non-smoking ladies, a non-smoker comes very high up the list

What many ladies say puts them off most in reading a written profile:

  • lack of height
  • too far away
  • nothing in common/no interests
  • too old
  • not sufficiently professional or educated
  • never married over 40 - older 'bachelor'
  • too fat (no beer bellies)/too skinny
  • too into sport, tinkering with cars etc.
  • beards/tattoos
  • arrogant sounding

  • NB For non-smoking ladies, smoking comes very high up the list

GENTLEMEN

What many men say is most important to them in a written profile:

  • slim
  • younger than themselves (the older the man, the bigger the required age gap)
  • sounds fun
  • no dependents, especially dogs
  • fairly tall

  • NB. For non-smoking man, a non-smoker comes very high up the list

What many men say puts them off most in reading a written profile

  • overweight
  • not younger than himself
  • too overpowering/not feminine sounding
  • too short
  • too far away
  • young children
  • no matching interests/weird 'alternative' interests

  • NB For non-smoking men, smoking comes very high up the list
