And Finally (for now)…CONFIDENTIALITY, SAFETY AND PRIVACY Having gone on about not lying, there are one or two exceptions. It is important, especially for ladies (sorry if this is being sexist), to withhold their identity until they know someone well enough to let them know where they live, etc. There is one little white lie I'm sure you'd be forgiven if you want to ensure your anonymity. Only first names are advisable, but if your first name is very distinctive - Sabrina or Tyrone - perhaps you could opt for your second name, or be something like Ann or John? (Perhaps I should be giving myself a different first name!). The agency, however, should be told your real name. If you have a unique occupation and live in Hamlet on Pond, you may prefer to place yourself in the nearest town. If you are a very wealthy man (or woman), don't let on until you're sure of someone. On no account lend money. We've all heard the stories. If you are a single mother it could be advisable, as already mentioned, to withhold this particular bit of information until you are actually contacted, at which stage it would be sensible to let the man know. This is to protect your children against a man who may only be contacting you because of them. Always have the courtesy and kindness to return all initial communications to yourself. Never promise to call without doing so! What you give out you get back. It costs you nothing to be kind.
